Lawsuits Are Forever

Great tip from our friend Dr. Sanj on the $300 million DeBeers class action site. Be sure to visit it if you bought diamond jewelry between 1994 (!) and 2006. Deadline to file is 5/19/2008.

WTF? This makes me angry.

Boy shot while taking lessons at Piedmont Piano Company.

(01-10) 21:27 PST Oakland -- A 10-year-old boy taking a piano lesson at a North Oakland studio was shot and critically injured today by a stray bullet when a robber opened fire at a gas station across the street, authorities said.

The boy, whose name was not released, was in critical and unstable condition and undergoing surgery tonight at Children's Hospital Oakland.

He was hit in the abdomen by at least one of three bullets fired at about 4:30 p.m. by a man who was robbing a the Chevron gas station at Piedmont and Pleasant Valley avenues, police said.
I love the city but Ron Dellum's mayorship is a disaster. Seriously.

Sigh.

I'm dead. That sucks, at least for me and my family and friends. But all the tears in the world aren't going to bring me back, so I would prefer that people remember the good things about me rather than mourning my loss. (If it turns out a specific number of tears will, in fact, bring me back to life, then by all means, break out the onions.)

Free Systemwide Upgrade on United Airlines

Happy New Year!

... and it's that time of the year again. If you are...

* Flying on UA before 1/31/2008
* Going far (preferably over 6 hours, bonus points for overnight flights)

... I have a handful of systemwide upgrade certificates turning into pumpkins at the end of January. Contact me for a free upgrade.

(Edited 1/3/2008 -- Wow, that was fast; maybe this wacky search result had something to do with it. I think the certificates are all claimed now, but if they fall through the waitlists I'll reach out to you folks. Safe travels!)
